Logistics has an operating profile few other activities share: the systems have to work when the office is closed. Collections leave at dawn, deliveries arrive overnight, tracking keeps no hours. A failure at three in the morning that nobody notices blocks the entire chain the following day. Redundancy belongs where the flow stops. Not everything deserves a second line or a second server: the system that governs dispatch does, the historical archive does not. The way to decide is to ask which process stops, not which machine stops.

A warehouse is a hostile radio environment

Handheld terminals that keep dropping off the network are the most common complaint, and almost never because of the equipment: it is because a warehouse is not an office.

Metal racking reflects the signal and creates dead zones that move as the stock changes. Forklifts are moving masses that interrupt the paths. Temperature-controlled chambers absorb signal. And operators walk, so the handover from one access point to the next has to happen without dropping the connection — something consumer equipment does not manage.

The answer is not to add an access point wherever it drops: it is a survey on site that measures real coverage with the warehouse full, and a design that accounts for the materials. It is a day’s work that removes a daily problem.
